Clogged toilets are one of the most common residential and commercial plumbing emergencies that we get called in to fix. They are a pain to deal with yourself but are also super avoidable as long as we do not use our toilets as waste bins.
1. Feminine Products
This is one of the main culprits when it comes to clogged toilets. Tampons, pads and napkins should never be flushed down a toilet. These menstrual products are specifically designed to absorb liquid and will expand when it comes in contact with water.
2. Dental Floss
This one may not seem as obvious but not only can dental floss wreak havoc on your plumbing, but it can damage the environment as well. Dental floss will basically turn into a net that catches other debris and can even wrap around parts of your septic tank’s motor causing it to conk out.
3. Baby Wipes
We understand that having a newborn baby can be tough and you might be looking for little shortcuts to make life easier. But, baby wipes, even those labeled as “flushable”, should always go into your bathroom’s waste bin and not down your toilet.
4. Tissues and Paper Towels
You might think that paper towels and facial tissues are the same as toilet paper since they are basically made of the same material and are designed for single use but that is where the similarities end. Toilet paper is designed to break down easily once in contact with water while tissue paper and paper towels are not.
